The Riverside Community is in the Town of Southampton, bordering the Peconic River. In 2015 The Town of Southampton identified this area in their Redevelopment Plan for the Riverside Community.
This project is being revamped but will focus on increased healthy, safe recreation as well as enhanced coastal vulnerability and resiliency in an area identified as disadvantaged. The concept plan is community-driven, prioritizing healthy water quality restorations for safe water access, recreation, and education for the local community.

what we have accomplished so far, and What’s to come!

The Town of Southampton and Flanders-Riverside Northampton Community Association (FRNCA) are moving forward with constructing a 1,000 feet, ADA-complaint, maritime park trail to improve community water access for recreation. Peconic Estuary Partnership is supporting this community-driven plan to implement the construction of this maritime park trail, having completed a conceptual design for FRNCA.
Plans have officially been permitted with the intention to implement the design later in 2026.
Protecting and restoring critical wetland habitats to conserve the water quality in the Peconic Estuary.
This project will work towards improving the ecological integrity of the parcel of land. By implementing safe water access for the community through a permeable trail, this will increase the economic well-being and quality of life in the surrounding community.
Develop educational outreach programing and materials to increase knowledge of green infrastructure, wetland restoration efforts, and its importance in regards to this maritime trail.
Water quality protection and restoration strategies will also be implemented to ensure that recreation and usage of the Peconic Estuary in the area is healthy.
The Peconic Estuary Partnership is one of twenty-eight designated National Estuary Programs under the EPA and The Clean Water Act.
