Suffolk County Water Quality Protection and Restoration Program (WQPRP) Funding

The Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning is pleased to issue a Call for Applications for the ¼% sales tax Suffolk County Water Quality Protection and Restoration Program (WQPRP) funding.  See Call for Applications document for further details and submission instructions. Files containing the application, the instructions to complete the application, WQPRP Policy Decisions Document, and Suffolk County Legislative Requirements Forms are also attached. (Documents are found on the Water Quality Improvement Division’s website at: https://suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Economic-Development-and-Planning/Planning-and-Environment/Water-Quality-Improvement)

Applications are open to all Suffolk County departments, non-profit organizations, and to all local municipalities.  All non-County projects will require a match of at least 50% of the total project cost.

Any potential applicants for this round of Suffolk County Water Quality Protection and Restoration Program funding MUST attend the Proposer’s Conference on Tuesday, April 30th @ 10 AM. Please bring any and all questions/comments on the application with you at that time.

Project Background

With funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking a single proposer (Town, Village, non-profit, etc.) to participate in the Peconic Estuary Non-point Source Pollution Management Project Program (the “Program”). The awardee will receive up to $24,711 toward the construction of a non-point source pollution management project within the Peconic Estuary watershed. To qualify for the Program, the awardee must implement a priority Non-point Source Pollution Management Project located within the Peconic Estuary Watershed Boundary and must meet the minimum eligibility criteria identified in the application. A priority Non-point Source Pollution Management Project, includes but is not limited to: Implementation of a priority project identified by the Towns, Villages and non-profits and/ or a priority project identified in one of the 12 subwatershed management plans developed by the Peconic Estuary Program that involves the construction of a cost‐effective structural and non‐structural practices to reduce overall non-point source pollutant loadings (i.e. bacteria, sediment, nutrients) to the subwatershed to reduce non-point source pollution and improve overall water quality conditions: https://www.peconicestuary.org/protect-the-peconic/priority-issues-in-the-peconic-estuary/#pathogens.

The solicitation and review of proposals and selection of the winning proposal will be managed by the Peconic Estuary Program in consultation with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.
