SUMMARY:Southold Nitrogen Pollution and Septic Improvement
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP) and the Southold-Peconic Civic Association at the Southold Recreation Center on July 28\, at 6:30pm.  We will be addressing the reduction of nitrogen pollution and septic improvement in Southold.  Nitrogen pollution is a threat to our environment and economy on the East End.  PEP works on projects to mitigate nitrogen pollution\, such as wetland restoration and stormwater management.  At this meeting\, we will give updates on such projects in the Southold area.  In particular\, we will highlight a collaborative effort between PEP and the Town of Southold to address water quality at Goose Creek\, which is labelled as an “impaired waterbody” by the NYSDEC Priority Waterbodies List.  Additionally\, a Suffolk County representative will present on financial incentives for homeowners to upgrade their septic systems to reduce pollution\, and remediate ongoing septic issues.
