By volunteering\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nRestore native habitats for birds\, butterflies\, and other wildlife.\n\n\n\nImprove the overall health of the refuge ecosystem.\n\n\n\nLearn about local plants and the importance of conservation.\n\n\n\n\nNo experience is necessary! Training will be provided on identifying invasive species and safe removal techniques. DESCRIPTION:79 S Ferry Rd\, Shelter Island\, NY 11964  \n\n\n\nJoin Peconic Baykeeper and Peconic Estuary Partnership for our third year of Winter Watershed Walk Series! This year’s series features four new and different locations around the Peconic Estuary. We are hitting the trails again this winter  to explore some of the beautiful locations around the Peconic Estuary. This is a great chance to learn more about the coastal habitats in the watershed. Walks are open to all ages\, please register ahead of time so we may contact you in the event of a cancellation or rescheduling.  \n\n\n\nPlease dress for your comfort\, warm layers\, hats and gloves are encouraged. We will plan to meet at the trail head and begin walks shortly after our given start time if you are running late or can no longer attend a walk you have signed up for please let us know. We will do our best to wait for all confirmed registrants.  \n\n\n\nThis year we are starting a new Winter Watershed Walk Challenge and a new tradition! Attend all four walks\, get a stamp on your Winter Watershed Walk Card and win a swag bag from Peconic Baykeeper and Peconic Estuary Partnership! Swag bag includes t-shirts and hats\, tote bag\, reusable water bottle\, and pet waste bag dispenser! As for our new tradition join us back at the trailhead after the walk for hot chocolate! We’ll bring the thermos\, you bring a reusable mug!

DESCRIPTION:The Peconic Estuary Partnership and Concerned Citizens of Montauk will be hosting an in- person event at Big Reed Pond on March 28\, from 10am-12pm. This event is in conjunction with the Annual Long island River Herring and Eel Survey. \n\n\n\nThe annual Long Island Volunteer River Herring & Eel Survey is one of Long Island’s longest running community science projects. Started in 2006\, the survey engages community volunteer scientists to monitor runs of migratory river herring and American eels in rivers and streams across Long Island.  \n\n\n\nWe will be covering how to identify alewife\, and use the Survey 123 app to record your survey results. We will also discuss the significance of the fish passage projects in the Peconic Estuary.
